CRM CERTIFICATION
So what is holding you back if a CRM certification has been on your mind? Are you looking for a mentor? Do you need resources?
The Institute of Certified Records Managers™ (ICRM) is an international certifying organization of and for professional records and information managers. The ICRM was incorporated in 1975 to create a standard designation for Certified Records Managers (CRM) by which persons involved in records and information management could be measured, accredited, and recognized in accord with criteria of experience and knowledge established by their peers.
The ICRM website is the best place to learn about the requirements and the process. The following links provide you a comprehensive outline:

Attaining the CRM designation is based on educational background, professional work experience and successful completion of a six part examination consisting of:
Part 1 - Management Principles and the Records and Information Management Program
Part 2 - Records Creation and Use
Part 3 - Records Systems, Storage and Retrieval
Part 4 - Records Appraisal, Retention, Protection and Disposition
Part 5 - Technology, Equipment and Supplies
Part 6 - Case Studies
Parts 1 to 5 each consist of 100 multiple choice questions. The multiple choice questions for Parts 1-5 are chosen as equally as possible from all parts of the subject matter outline. Part 6 consists of case study problems.
CRM MENTORSHIP
Several years ago the ICRM Board of Regents decided to implement at the association level the concept of the Adopt-a-Candidate chapter program as a way to help Part 6 candidates "get over the hump." The Mentorship Program pairs candidates with existing CRMs who act as tutor and coach to the candidate preparing for this last portion of the examination process. This pairing of candidates with experienced CRMs:
Helps prepare the candidate for writing Part 6.
Provides encouragement and moral support to the candidate.
Please contact the ICRM Mentor Coordinator, Howard Loos - CRM/CDIA, for assistance.
CRM STUDY GROUPS
If you are interested in joining the CRM Toronto Google study group, please contact our Chapter's CRM Mentor, Irene Gelyk. You may email or call during work hours at (519) 888-7465 x79829.
